S 18 - 5 Sexual signals , learning processes and evolution

چکیده
Examples are given of how the widespread learning processes of sexual imprinting, song learning and song preference learning may affect the evolutionary processes of sexual selection and speciation in birds. They show that sexual imprinting may occur together with perceptual biases, giving rise to preferences for mates with exaggerated traits. Sexual imprinting may also give rise to exaggeration of sexual dimorphism through “peak shift”, a by-product of discrimination learning. Imprinting and song (preference) learning seem responsible for enabling or driving the rapid speciation of some avian brood parasites. The examples highlight the point that learning processes can have a profound impact on evolutionary processes and deserve prominent attention in evolutionary theory.

Combining pattern recognition and deep-learning-based algorithms to automatically detect commercial quadcopters using audio signals (Research Article)
Commercial quadcopters with many private, commercial, and public sector applications are a rapidly advancing technology. Currently, there is no guarantee to facilitate the safe operation of these devices in the community. Three different automatic commercial quadcopters identification methods are presented in this paper. Among these three techniques, two are based on deep neural networks in whi...
متن کاملSexual selection and experimental evolution of chemical signals in Drosophila pseudoobscura.
Our expectations for the evolution of chemical signals in response to sexual selection are uncertain. How are chemical signals elaborated? Does sexual selection result in complexity of the composition or in altered quantities of expression? We addressed this in Drosophila pseudoobscura by examining male and female cuticular hydrocarbons (CHs) after 82 generations of elevated (E) sexual selectio...
متن کاملLack of phonotactic preferences of female frogs and its consequences for signal evolution.
Sexual selection is one of the main evolutionary forces that drive signal evolution. In previous studies, we have found out that males of Pleurodema thaul, a frog with an extensive latitudinal distribution in Chile, emits advertisement calls that show remarkable variation among populations. In addition, this variation is related to intense inter-male acoustic competition (intra-sexual selection...
متن کاملAdaptive Filtering Strategy to Remove Noise from ECG Signals Using Wavelet Transform and Deep Learning
Introduction: Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a method to measure the electrical activity of the heart which is performed by placing electrodes on the surface of the body. Physicians use observation tools to detect and diagnose heart diseases, the same is performed on ECG signals by cardiologists. In particular, heart diseases are recognized by examining the graphic representation of heart signals w...
متن کاملSpatial Learning Paradigm Can Increase Post-Stress Total Time of REM Sleep in Immobilized Rats
Background & Objective: Stress contributes to sleep-wake behavior in all animals. It seems that factors such as learning and memory processes can improve sleep disorders. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the effects of stress and learning (spatial memory) on total post-stress rapid-eye-movement (REM), non-rapid-eye-movement (NREM) and waking time in rats. Materials & Met...
